Registration

You are here: Choosing A Cat > Registration

If you obtain a purebred kitten or cat for a pet and do not intend to show or breed him, you can usually get one for considerably less than a show-type or "breeder" type. This is because the cattery owner does not want this kitten used for breeding or showing, and to ensure that this is prevented, most breeders "hold" the pedigree until after the kitten has been neutered or spayed. However, if you decide to pay the extra and get a show kitten or one that the breeder considers good enough to use in a breeding program, the pedigree and registration certificate is included in the price.

The pedigree can usually be registered in one of the large Cat Associations, but inquire with which association the parents of the kitten are registered, as some of the registering bodies will only accept cats for registration if the parents are already registered.
