Pedigreed vs. Non-Pedigreed

You are here: Choosing A Cat > Pedigreed - Non-Pedigreed

Whether to get a non-pedigreed or purebred cat is both a matter of preference and of the pocketbook. Usually purebred cats are more expensive.

If you want to exhibit your cat in shows or are thinking of raising pure-bred cats, the answer for you could be a purebred cat. Even if you are not interested in doing either of these, you will find certain advantages in acquiring a purebred cat:
* You know just what you are getting.
* You can tell much of your kitten's future appearance by looking at his parents.
* You will have gotten a cat bred for his traits both as a house pet and a show cat.
* You will have acquired a cat with a pedigree that may be traced back for generations, an aristocrat with animal world status.
