Manx

You are here: Breeds and Registration > Cat Breeds > Manx

The present source of this breed is the Isle of Man from which it gets its name. Although many theories have been advanced on its origin, no one is completely accepted.

The Manx is sometimes called the "bunny cat" for when he runs, his immensely strong back legs which are longer than his front legs, make him run in a kind of bunny hop. He has a large, round head with prominent cheek bones. He has a compact appearance with remarkably high hindquarters which are round and full, and a short back.

Although thought of as a tailless cat, because the show cat of this breed has a slight depression where a tail should be, there are Manx cats with varying tail lengths.

The Manx is shy, sweet and very docile with a soft voice, a sort of feline "clinging vine," greatly attached to his owner.
