Burmese Cat

Burmese This breed has a sturdy. stocky build called "angus" or "steerlike," a very rounded head and very rounded ears. He has surprising weight for his size.

He is considered to be more gentle than the Siamese. and, while the Burmese cat likes to be with you, he will not demand as much attention as the Siamese.

His color is usually a rich. sable brown. shading almost imperceptibly to a slightly lighter hue on the underparts. but otherwise he has no shadings or markings of any kind. The nose leather and paw pads are brown, and the eye color ranges from yellow to gold. Champagne and Blue Burmese colors are also recognized in some associations.


Standards for Burmese Cats

Head: pleasingly rounded without flat planes whether viewed from front or side. Face full, with considerable breadth between the eyes, tapering to a slightly short, well-developed muzzle. In profile there should be a visible nose break.

Ears: medium in size and set well apart on a rounded skull; alert, tilting slightly forward, broad at base with slightly rounded tips.

Eyes: set far apart and with rounded aperture.

Body: medium in size, muscular in development, and presenting a somewhat compact appearance. Allowance to .be made for larger size in males. An ample, rounded chest, with back level from shoulder to tail.

Legs: well proportioned to body.

Paws: round.

Toes: five in front and four behind. Tail: straight, medium in length.

Coat: fine, glossy, satin-like appearance; short and close lying.

Condition: perfect physical condition, with excellent muscle tone. There should be no evidence of obesity, paunchiness, weakness or apathy.

Penalize: green eyes.

Withhold Winners: kinked or abnormal tail. Locket or button. Incorrect number of toes.

Disqualify: blue eyes.

Color: the mature specimen should be rich, warm sable brown; shading almost imperceptibly to a slightly lighter hue on the under parts, but otherwise without any shadings or marking of any kind.

Nose Leather: brown.

Paw Pads: brown.

Eye Color: ranging from yellow to gold, the greater the depth and brilliance, the better.
