The American Shorthair, or Domestic Shorthair as it is sometimes called, has many practical qualities which endear him to his owner. His willingness to adjust makes him fit into most homes. Ingratiating as well as flexible, he adapts himself to his owner and his owner's way of life. Domestic Shorthairs also make good mousers and are believed to have come to America from England with the Pilgrims.
Their coats are soft, short, and thick, and can be seen in all the many colors of the Persian cat. They have a solid build, a fully-rounded chest, and a level spine, supported by medium-high legs. Their heads are round and their eyes medium-sized.
The Domestic Shorthair is powerful but graceful. In personality he is easy-going and faithful. Intelligent, he is sometimes mischievous but usually well-mannered.
